
So, we’re starting to dive below the surface of presentations. The groups are getting to know, like and trust us and we’re eager to explore our own limitations. What are the opportunities and pitfalls which lie ahead of us?
Have you ever been to a meeting where the main speaker has failed to turn up and the group leaders discuss cancelling the section? Can you put your hand up and say “I’ll do it!” No prior notice, no extra preparation just on the spot put your hand up and say “I’ll do it!”
How much credibility as an expert in your field will that bring you? How much credence the next time one of your group is asked…”Do you know anyone who…?”
I did it at my first FSB meeting and was offered the opportunity to mentor a bank manager on her presentation skills.
What are the pitfalls of diving deeper?
Every journey, every adventure has pitfalls. We know that as we dive we are going to hit challenges. OK, those challenges might not be sharks, they could be much worse, they could be our own deep fear of losing credibility, losing face and losing client opportunities.
But, we know that we need not necessarily be alone on the journey. ErnieSaid aims to be your ‘buddy’ your guide on the dive. Now, I’ll never claim to know everything about speaking in front of a live audience or into a camera. But, what I do know, I know well and I’m passionate about working with you because I’ve been deeper than you have more often than you have, for the moment that’s enough for the moment.
